Although he hadn't released a proper solo album in eighteen years (1981's TOO LATE THE HERO was his last), John Entwistle assembled 'The John Entwistle Band' and began touring in the late 1990s. A live album was released in 1999, LEFT FOR LIVE, which combined both solo favorites as well as Who compositions (similar in set up to his KING BISCUIT FLOWER HOUR disc). And while LEFT FOR LIVE may lack some of the fire of the aforementioned FLOWER HOUR release, it's still worthy of any Entwistle fan. There are stirring versions of such Who rockers "905," "Success Story," "Had Enough," and "Real Me" as well the mournful solo favorite "Too Late the Hero." Historically speaking, the most interesting aspect of this release is the inclusion of "Shakin' All Over" and "Young Man Blues," two covers Entwistle first played with The Who.
