For better or worse, all Endwell have to offer up on their Victory debut, Homeland Insecurity, is the standard metalcore fare. The Queens-based quintet thrash their way through 12 songs that have throat-destroying growls here, melodic singing there, heavy breakdowns from over yonder, and a sufficient amount of gang vocals dispersed throughout. Despite the album's title, there's nothing even vaguely political (or even interesting, for that matter) present here; the album's artwork -- an underwear-clad girl pensively sitting in front of a mirror -- should have been a huge tipoff. The band just serves up a heartbroken dose of rage-lite for guys who'd rather scream out their angst than weep silently in a corner, songs boasting lyrics like "I'm just a bruised and broken heart, but the memories you left are of a girl who's lost and broken" ("Single and Loving It") and the emo-rific "Just pull the plug and end what you've begun/This love is hell, my heart is dead" ("Boy Meets World War III"). Uninspired lyrics aside, Endwell are a competent team, albeit totally interchangeable with at least half of their Victory peers, and thus pretty hard to recall when all is said and done. Homeland Insecurity is great for that first week of dealing with getting dumped by one's sweetheart, but these songs wear thin pretty quickly. Endwell, you gotta do better than this if you want anyone to care whether you stay or go.
