Boombox Cartel

Los Angeles-based EDM act Boombox Cartel fuse trap, electro-house, and dubstep with Latin influences. Breaking into the scene with the pop-influenced 2015 single "B2U," the Cartel has received support from major DJs such as Skrillex and Diplo, and has performed at festivals like Lollapalooza and Electric Daisy Carnival. Americo Garcia, originally from Laredo, Texas, and Mexico City-born Jorge Medina went to high school together in Monterrey, Mexico. They both relocated to Minnesota to study at the McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, and they formed Boombox Cartel in 2012. After they started gaining a local following within the Twin Cities electronic music scene, additionally branching out and playing shows in other cities, the duo moved to Los Angeles, where their career began to take off. After self-releasing several tracks and remixes, "B2U" (featuring vocalist Ian Everson) was released by FRNT in 2015 and garnered attention from EDM DJs. The duo released tracks with artists like NGHTMRE and Bro Safari, and remixed songs by Major Lazer, Kill the Noise, Louis the Child, and others. Diplo's Mad Decent label released Cartel, the duo's debut EP, in 2017. Subsequent Mad Decent-issued singles, including 2018's "Moon Love" (with Nessly) and Flosstradamus collaboration "ID," went in more of an overtly trap-inspired direction. 2019 brought collaborations with MadeinTYO ("New Wip") and Desiigner ("Drip," co-produced by Dillon Francis).
