English covers of rock, folk, and pop tunes on this rather heavily orchestrated album, which may be Hardy's most marginal '60s recording. The renditions of Tim Hardin's "Hang on to a Dream" and Phil Ochs' "There But For Fortune" aren't bad, but the torpid interpretations of "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," "Let It Be Me," "That'll Be the Day," and Elvis Presley's "Loving You" really lay on the schmaltz. In both arrangement and material (there are no Hardy originals), there is little of what made the singer special here. Incidentally, one of the better tracks, the Europop-flavored "Empty Sunday," was reworked in part from a tune recorded earlier on a solo single by Yardbirds singer Keith Relf ("Shapes in My Mind").

In your panoramas...
Hardy yé-yé

Françoise Hardy was one of the spearheads of the yé-yé movement that took over France in the early 1960s. And yet, her relationship with this current has not always been straightforward…

The Talented Mr Yared

Jury member at the 70th Cannes Film Festival, Gabriel Yared has been bewitching the ears of film buffs since the 1980s, after having been one of the most sought-after arrangers of French music. His sole mission is to find the right note and the most moving sounds for every film whose soundtrack he produces, whether they be directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix, Jean-Pierre Mocky or Xavier Dolan.

Bossa nova, the Eternal Wave

Since its creation in the late 1950s, Bossa-nova has become an indispensable part of Brazilian music. The style’s strong evocative power won over artists from all around the world and earned recognition for many first-rate musicians whose works are now seen as classics.
