"High-altitude electronic soul" began with the chance early-'90s convergence of renegade funk-popsters Sim Lister and Jake Harries (both of Chakk) and FON Studios hand Steve Cobby. Cobby would go on to fame and further brilliance as Fila Brazillia and Solid Doctor--and as an architect of Hull's great Pork Records label.

ELECTRIC HUSH casts its spell with Harries' tempered whispers, liquid-blue synth, diffused sax, glints of piano and guitar, and shuffling beats. Today, we'd call it trip hop or blissed-out acid jazz. But Heights Of Abraham was onto something unique--long before the music even had a name. ELECTRIC HUSH is a long day's journey into a longer night, lit by the twinkle of stars and marquee moons and guided by the heartbeat mantra of "Make Love." "High Times" and "What's The Number?" tower above the urban bustle like lonely skyscrapers. "Olive Branching" bears down with the thrust and inner city pressure of a rush-hour train. "700 Channels" and "Sunyatta" drift off into a funk as wistful as it is weary.
