After over a decade of waiting, Crowded House have released their latest album, featuring original members Neil Finn and Nick Seymour, in addition to producer and keyboardist Mitchell Froom, Liam Finn and Elroy Finn. Dreamers Are Waiting is a softer, more refined version of the Woodface era Crowded House we love.
Bad Times Good is a subtle, guitar-lead opening track that leads us straight into familiar waters with Playing With Fire, a Crowded House pop classic with a hint of optimistic surf/rock which gives it a youthful appeal. We are treated with a 60’s inspired track with Sweet Tooth as well as a nostalgic ballad on Show Me The Way, a flashback to tracks like Don’t Dream It’s Over. It’s nice to look through the songwriting credits on this album and see the collaborative nature of this album. Of the 12 tracks, Neil Finn has six solo contributions, two band compositions, and the bulk of the remainder are co-written with his brother Tim or one of his sons which is what gives this album a young and experimental touch.
Although less energetic than previous Crowded House albums, this one has a laid-back feel that will leave you walking away feeling refreshed. You can see that Crowded House have entered their renaissance with their standout new album Dreamers Are Waiting. © Jessica Porter-Langson / Qobuz
