Worriedaboutsatan
Hailing from the city of Leeds, U.K., Worriedaboutsatan are a two-piece electronic outfit known for combining the stylistic elements of electronica, glitch, IDM, rock, and techno. Comprised of Gavin Miller and Tom Ragsdale, the two musicians met while at Leeds College of Music. The pair bonded over an appreciation of post-rock acts such as Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky, as well as atmospheric electronic acts such as Boards of Canada and Underworld. Eventually, the two decided to form a project of their own; originally going by the name "Johnny Poindexter." The duo ultimately decided to name themselves after a song by the Belgian rock band dEUS, and Worriedaboutsatan was born out of their desire to combine the many varied elements of both their shared and disparate musical tastes. After spending months experimenting with different sounds and technique, the duo put out their first independent release, EP1, in 2006. However, it was not until they followed up with EP2 in 2007 that they began to receive more widespread attention and acclaim from assorted publications. After some time off to finesse their sound and explore other ways of creating atmospheric soundscapes, Worriedaboutsatan returned in 2009 with their first full-length effort, Arrivals. The record received continuous acclaim, garnering comparisons to the soundscape worlds of fellow atmospheric acts such as Hammock and Stars of the Lid. More success followed, particularly with increasing use of the duo’s work in numerous British television programs. They returned at the end of 2009 with Arrivals Remixed, a collection of remixes from underground electronic producers.
Subsequent years saw no activity in the Worriedaboutsatan camp as the two producers focused on side projects, until they suddenly returned in 2014 with a new single “I’m Not/The Next Round,” released through their own imprint, This Is It Forever. In 2015, they released their second full-length, Even Temper. The return was welcomed by critics and fans alike, with many noting the record's eclectic mix of ethereal strings and acid house basslines. The band also began to change and fully develop their live performances, with all guitar-oriented duties given to Miller while Ragsdale took control of all digital and electronic elements of their sound. The number of their live shows increased, with the pair ultimately touring and performing alongside acts such as Yndi Halda, 65daysofstatic, and Maybeshewill. Their workflow burgeoned, and 2016 saw the release of Blank Tape, which found the duo incorporating both organic and electronic elements in equal measure. The record featured guest performances from Bristol-based electronic outfit Face + Heel and Vincent Cavanagh of the band Anathema.
