Everybody gather round: one of the most prolific rappers of the modern age has teamed up with one of the biggest beatmakers in hip-hop history. Continuance plunges us into a mind-blowing cinematographic experience; it’s a trip along the meandering rivers that are The Alchemist’s samples, where you can smell the sweet scent of refined jazz and stare in awe at the vividly illustrated music. Every track is polished and inspired. Curren$y sings about life on the streets and having pride for where you come from, and his voice is joined by an assortment of other big names, like Styles P on the incredible Whale Watching. Then there’s Corvette Rally Stripes, which features Havoc from Mobb deep and Wiz Khalifa (a surprising fit considering this track’s dark sound). Continuance is all about the melodies and harmonies. Rhythms are seamlessly blended into the mix, as if to better highlight the vocal skill of Curren$y and his guest vocalists. This album proves that the weightiness associated with rap music doesn’t come from the drums, but from the emotions it stirs up.
