A long career is one thing; a long career coupled with consistent quality is quite another. Since their epic return with the psychedelic Elephants on Acid in 2018, Cypress Hill have been on fire. This tenth album Back in Black offers a similar vibe to their productions from the late 2000s. It features a wave of devastating, heavy productions composed by the incredible Black Milk. On the previous album, their regular beatmaker, DJ Muggs, seemed to steal the spotlight. This time, the focus is on the rappers and featured artists (including Demrick on Certified and Dizzy Wright on Bye Bye) who, just like Cypress Hill, worship cannabis through the medium of music. The album is short but undeniably effective. Every single sound has a purpose and the vocals are always sharp, like knives slicing through the air, and the rhythm is dictated by free drums.
