If the Wallflowers' Jakob Dylan ever started leading church worship services, it may very well sound like this. Aaron Shust bears a resemblance both in vocals and in songwriting style, as he prefers jangly rock grooves and superb production. Shust was picked up by Atlanta's Brash Music, which made it a rather unusual signing for a secular label. His approachable worship lyrics drew the attention of the Brash brass after making a name for himself locally. The result, Anything Worth Saying, is a set of catchy praise anthems cloaked in high-quality sound. Producer Dan Hannon added programmed loops and electric guitars in places that, without it, would have seemed derivative and unoriginal. With his help, the album shines. Shust put ample thought into each song, as he explains in the CD's lengthy liner notes. "My Savior My God" became the album's standout hit with its vulnerable introduction and melodic climax. Followers of Bebo Norman and By the Tree may enjoy the sound of this praise project, but lyrically it may leave you a little disappointed by saying nothing new.
