This jovial bespectacled man from Mississippi— who now lives in Los Angeles—looks like he’s from a Wes Anderson movie, or from a John Waters one… A real all-arounder (from country music with his opera Cowboy Maloney’s Electric City to electro with Dent Sweat) who keeps the cream of the crop for his own albums. With his voice sounding like Morrissey or a young Bowie, Dent May performs brilliantly as a lo-fi crooner. Alternating country music, pop and easy listening, fiddling with the ukulele (The Good Feeling Music Of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele was the title of his first album released in 2009) as well as the trombone, the violin or the bass, the big playground of this fascinating one-man band is exquisite because always driven by ever-catchy pop choruses.
