NMC Recordings is an award-winning record label with charitable status. Founded in 1989 by composer Colin Matthews OBE, we are devoted to enriching cultural life by connecting listeners with exceptional contemporary classical music from across the British Isles.

We believe that new music is a dynamic and engaging art-form, and seek to inspire and challenge audiences through the release and promotion of recordings, innovative artistic partnerships, commissioning new repertoire, and delivering education work.
We fulfil our charitable aims by:
- collaborating with leading composers, artists, orchestras, and ensembles,
- producing high quality recordings of outstanding works,
- promoting recordings and other resources to expand worldwide audiences for new music,
- preserving this creativity for future generations.

With almost 300 releases in our back catalogue, encompassing established figures and new voices, our award-winning recordings are of the highest quality and feature major international artists. Our non-deletion policy, ensuring recordings are kept permanently available to the public, means NMC is rapidly becoming a national archive of contemporary classical music in Britain.

Our audience across 150 countries worldwide has grown steadily in recent years, with our catalogue receiving more than 1.5 million downloads, streams, and physical CD sales each year. More than just a record label, recent projects include artistic partnerships with Wigmore Hall, Science Museum, and Sound and Music; and the creation of education resources with Rambert Dance Company, and Rhinegold Education.

In 2015, NMC became the first organisation to receive the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society’s Leslie Boosey Award for “its outstanding contribution to the furthering of contemporary music in Britain”. Colin Matthews subsequently received the Gramophone Special Achievement Award 2017 for his “unique contribution to British contemporary music as founder and executive producer of NMC”.
