Spite

An American heavy metal outfit with an aggressive sound that draws from multiple subgenres like post-grunge, post-hardcore, noise rock, and nu-metal, Spite emerged in the mid-'90s and released a pair of well-received albums before disbanding in the early 2000s. Spite was formed in July 1996 in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a lineup consisting of vocalist Chris Boone, guitarist "Live Fast" Dan Young, bassist Josh Pratt, and drummer Byron McDonald. Taking their cues from the lean, stripped-down assault of groups like the Deftones or Korn, Spite recorded an album titled Heavy Whipping Cream and toured the East Coast relentlessly, eventually landing a recording contract with Prosthetic. Their national debut album, Bastard Complex, was released in 1999. The groups called it quits in 2001 after the overdose death of guitarist Young.
