Soyeon Kate Lee
Korean pianist Soyeon Lee was born in Seoul in 1979, and moved to the United States when she was nine. She studied with Marina di Pretoro, and worked with Victoria Mushkatkol at the Interlochen Arts Academy. She went on to study with Jerome Lowenthal and Robert McDonald at the Juilliard School, where she received her baccalaureate and master's degrees, as well as her Artist Diploma. She earned her doctorate at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, working with Richard Goode and Ursula Oppens. A recipient of Juilliard's Petschek Piano Debut Award in 2004, Lee performed a recital at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, followed by another recital at Weill Hall. Lee was also the winner of the 2004 Concert Artist Guild International Competition and the 2010 Naumburg International Piano Competition. Lee became a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and she is the artistic director of Music by the Glass, a chamber music series in New York which she co-founded. She teaches piano at the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music as an assistant professor. She has recorded music by Scarlatti, Liszt, and Scriabin for Naxos.
