Peyote Asesino
Uruguayan hardcore rap band Peyote Asesino was formed in the mid-'80s by singer L. Mental, bassist Daniel Benia, and guitarist Juan Campodonico; they were soon joined by singer/guitarist Carlos Casacuberta and drummer P.P. Canedo. After winning a local contest called Generation '95, Peyote Asesino had the opportunity to make its first record, produced by Gabriel Casacuberta and released by Orfeo. That self-titled album, presented live at a local club, featured a version of the Rolling Stones' classic "Satisfaction (I Can't Get No)." In March 1997 the band performed along with Argentinean Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas, later signing with Gustavo Santaolalla's Surco, which recorded the group's second album. The release of Terraja (issued in the U.S. in 1998) was followed by a tour around Mexico, along with Molotov and Control Machete.
