Patrick Adams

Born in Harlem, New York on March 17, 1950, Patrick Adams was a songwriter, arranger, and producer best known for his work during the disco movement in the mid-to-late 1970s. Inspired by his childhood spent singing in choir and his exposure to live performances at the Apollo Theater, Patrick began playing the trumpet purchased for hm by his father. In his teens, he began playing the guitar and composing his own songs. He began to focus on his arranging skills, which earned him a reputation in the music business. He became the Vice President of Perception/Today Records in 1970, discovering teenage vocal trio Black Ivory, who released their debut album in 1971. By 1973, he formed his own production company – Patrick Adams Productions, Inc. – and began to work with a variety of artists including Herbie Mann, Candy Staton, Eddie Kendricks, Loleatta Holloway, the Main Ingredient, Rick James, Gladys Knight, and others. When disco became popular, Patrick Adams formed several studio-only groups to capitalize on the movement including Musique, Phreek, The Universal Robot Band, Bumblebee Unlimited, and many others. He wrote and produced many hits for Atlantic Records, Salsoul Records, and others. In the 1980s, he engineered recordings for Eric B. & Rakim, Keith Sweat, Heavy D. & The Boyz, Salt-N-Pepa, Teddy Riley, and more. Over the course of his career, he was honored with 32 gold and platinum records. While his work is spread over many different decades and many different labels, the 2006 compilation The Master Of The Masterpiece (The Very Best Of Mr. Patrick Adams) gathers together some of his best work with artists such as Black Ivory, Donna McGhee, Phreek, Cloud One, Daybreak, Musique, Sandra Herring, and many others.
