Pamela Polland
Pamela Polland's music has grown and blossomed as she shifted musical direction several times since starting out in the '60s. As part of Gentle Soul with Rick Stanley, she charted in the '60s with a few folk-rock singles. During the following decade, the singer/songwriter made two recordings for Columbia Records as a solo artist, and she fronted a jazz quartet in Maui. By 1999, Polland joined with Claudia Kirchmayr in a Hawaiian-language duo called Makamaka. In addition, throughout three decades Polland has recorded or sung with such artists as Van Morrison, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Kenny Loggins, John Denver, the Manhattan Transfer, and Taj Mahal. A number of artists have recorded her original compositions, among them Bobby Bare, Vikki Carr, Helen Reddy, Linda Ronstadt, and Nancy Ames. Heart of the World, Polland's album that she issued on her Off the Leash label, includes guest appearances by Loggins and Raitt. In addition to singing and writing, she is a voice teacher.
