Real name Jean-Michel Bagré, Ivorian rapper MC One hails from Cocody, a district of the capital Abidjan, and grew up listening to his father's reggae and the sound of Sexion d'Assaut. He was only 12 when he decided to take up rap himself, via a freestyle in the streets of his neighborhood. It was filmed and posted on social networks, bringing the young teenager into the spotlight in an unexpected way. His mentor DJ Kedjevera looked after him, and had him record a remix of his hit "Poutou Banier". MC One then released several singles that kept the public's attention lively before really exploding in 2017 with the track "Opi Onaka Faikoi?", built on a trap beat concocted by Tupaï. The two men followed this up with another hit, "Anitche", which whetted the appetite of MC One, who now aims for an international career that includes success in France. In 2019, he spent some time in Paris, where he met 4Keus, Kaaris and Jok'Air, who invited him to guest on his track "2 sans 25". Studying trends, the Ivorian rapper followed up with tracks such as "Tranquillement tranquille" and "Shérif". After "Africain" in 2020, MC One is back in 2022 with "Cocaïna", in which he denounces the ravages of this substance, not only in Africa, but all over the world.
