Jay Scøtt

Jay Scøtt is a Félix Award-winning musician known for his unique blend of folk and hip-hop. He was born as "Pier-Luc Jean Papineau" on August 10, 1989, in Terrebonne, Quebec. In the early 2010s, the 20something Papineau began releasing rap songs under the stage name of "PL33." He soon changed his alias to "Jay Scøtt" and began working with collaborator Smitty Bacalley, who joined him in releasing the debut album Stockholm in 2017. A second release, Un chevreuil, arrived in 2018. Scøtt competed in the Francophone music competition Francouvertes that same year, then launched his solo career with EM0G0D. Released in 2018, the EM0G0D EP marked his first project to be completed without Bacalley's help. He started releasing demos of original folk songs on YouTube and Patreon shortly thereafter. The Quebec-based rapper FouKi heard Scøtt's song "Copilote" and remixed it with Scøtt's help, ultimately releasing it on the 2020 album Grignotines de luxe. The collaborative track became a significant hit in Canada, and Scøtt capitalized on its success by releasing his own album, 2021's Ses plus grands succès, which compiled together many of his recent folk songs. Rap Queb Vol. 1 followed in 2022, featuring covers of songs by Quebecois rappers. That same year, "Copilote" won awards for "Song of the Year" and "Video of the Year" at the 44th Félix Awards, with Ses plus grands succès winning an award for "Folk Album of the Year."
