Though they knew each other in their native New Zealand, they started making music together in Australia, combining their passions for pop, soul, hip-hop, and electronic music into tracks showcasing McCabe's gritty yet sweet voice and Matthews' glitchy production work. The duo's debut EP, Hoodie, arrived in early 2015 and won the group a following in New Zealand and Australia. They issued the Jacket EP a year later, and capped their 2016 by signing with Future Classic and releasing the 501's single. A remix of the track featuring Dai Burger appeared at the beginning of 2017, and was also included on that April's Undress EP.
