Factory

French rock band from Givors (Rhône), Factory was formed in October 1975 around singer Yves Matrat and guitarist Lahmi Saïbi. The English-language repertoire of their first album, Black Stamp (1977), released by Cobra, was followed by a contract with Pathé Marconi to record the French-language Cache Ta Joie (1979) and Sur le Côté (1980). The band's larger audience, promoted by the specialist press and radio, led to them contributing two tracks to the soundtrack of Michel Nerval's hit comedy film Le bahut va craquer (1981), "C'est pas interdit de rêver" and "Qu'est-ce que tu peux faire si t'as peur de faire l'amour", both of which were released as singles. The following year, Factory gave a reggae version of the nursery rhyme "À la claire fontaine", performed on the TV show Champs-Élysées presented by Michel Drucker. Also in 1982, the quintet recorded the six-track mini-album Roulez Jeunesse, before bassist Philippe Veau died in a car accident. This tragic event marked the temporary separation of the group, which returned in 1986. The Bande à Part compilation was released in 1992. Some of the musicians take part in the group's stage reunions, renamed Facto in the 2000s and again in 2014-2015.
