Dixson

Atlanta native DIXSON is a versatile collaborator and headliner operating primarily in the contemporary R&B idiom. The singer, songwriter, arranger, producer, and multi-instrumentalist entered the national spotlight in 2015 as a Top 24 contestant on The Voice. He has since established a career highlighted by Academy Award- and Grammy-nominated collaborations with Beyoncé, along with solo projects such as YOUNG (2018) and 004DAISY (2022). DIXSON's evolving sound is simultaneously progressive and rooted deeply in soul and gospel. DIXSON (Darius Scott Dixson) was born and raised in Atlanta. He came up in the church, playing drums and piano, and also put together the band and selected the songs -- duties given to him by his deacon father by the age of ten. In 2015, a couple years after he graduated from the College of Wooster in Ohio, DIXSON, going by Darius Scott, competed in the ninth season of The Voice. Coached by longtime inspiration Pharrell Williams, he performed songs by the likes of Bill Withers, Usher, and Kanye West, and made it to the Top 24. DIXSON quickly began building his post-Voice discography. He teamed with Luke Witherspoon in 2016 for the single "Anchors," and over the next couple years issued additional tracks that steadily increased anticipation for his first full-length, YOUNG, issued independently in 2018. DIXSON truly emerged as a collaborator the following year as one of the key songwriters and producers behind Chance the Rapper's The Big Day, a number two hit on the Billboard 200. In 2021, by then a Roc Nation signee, DIXSON offered Darling, a wide-scoped EP that moved from post-disco R&B to Prince-style balladry to gritty funk infused with gospel. That November, Beyoncé released "Be Alive," a song she and DIXSON wrote and produced in tandem for the film King Richard. "Be Alive" was nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Song Written for Visual Media, and also earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. Continuing his work with Beyoncé, DIXSON co-wrote "Virgo's Groove" and "Pure/Honey" for 2022's Renaissance. After that album topped the Billboard 200 and before it won the year's Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album, he issued his second album, 004DAISY. The set boasted slow jam duets with Tinashe and Sevyn Streeter, and an appearance from Vic Mensa, another artist who has sought DIXSON's writing and production talents. Still with Roc Nation, DIXSON swiftly returned the following year with "Sweeter."
