Brevin Kim

Genre-bending Boston sibling duo Brevin Kim mash together pop, rock, alternative, and hip-hop. Born and raised in the Boston suburb of North Attleboro, brothers Brendan and Callin Paulhus grew up on their parents' classic rock collection. With less than two years between them, they were always close. They started making music together when barely into double digits, initially inspired by rap, but later by indie acts like Kings of Leon and Bon Iver. Bren focused primarily on beatmaking, while Cal contributed most of the lyrics. Fascinated by experimenting with production, they were unafraid to mash together ideas from totally unrelated genres, but always with a focus on catchy hooks. Piano ballads with grinding bass would sit alongside electric guitar tracks with high-pitched synths and electronic beats, and acoustic songs with autotuned, trap-style vocals. Taking their moniker from a combination of elements of their and their parents' names, they started uploading tracks in 2017, releasing a slew of free albums and EPs that gradually built up Internet buzz and accrued hundreds of thousands of streams. In 2019, Cal moved to Florida to live with his girlfriend, but the brothers continued to collaborate long-distance. An EP they issued later that year, Cliff, was their highest-profile release to that date. The following year, they signed to Republic for the EP Metallic Body Language, a collaboration with similarly genre-mashing Delaware rapper Lil West.
