Bernard Foccroulle
Belgian organist Bernard Foccroulle has enjoyed a successful career playing a variety of genres from Renaissance through to modern contemporary. He studied at the Conservatoire de Liège and co-founded Ricercar Consort with violinist François Fernandez and viola da gamba player Philippe Pierlot. Performing predominantly Baroque music, the ensemble recorded more than 50 albums including 12 volumes of 'Deutsche Barock Kantaten' as well as 'Consort Music' of Alfonso Ferrabosco and William Byrd and 'Grands Motets' of Henry Du Mont.
With more than 40 solo records to his name including 'Resonance' (1976), 'Acousmie' (1980) and 'Sinforuen' (1984), Foccroulle was given the position of director of Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels in 1992, a position he held for 15 years. He continued to perform but also started to compose music for soloists and ensembles, notably 'Am Rande Der Nacht' (2010) and 'Nigra Sum for Soprano, Cornet and Organ'. He was commissioned by Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie to write a concerto for cello and orchestra; the concerto debuted in 2019.
