Born in 2000 in Oakland, California, Mika grew up listening to her parents' traditional pop and jazz albums before discovering artists like Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Imagine Dragons, and Marina and the Diamonds. Around age 15, she began posting cover songs online, garnering buzz for her warm vocals and trademark pink kids microphone. She eventually started writing and recording her own songs at home and in 2018 released her debut EP, Are We There Yet. She returned the following year with another EP, Level Up. Live appearances followed, and in 2020 she released her third EP, 5 A.M., which included the viral hit "Y U Gotta B Like That" with KYLE.
