杨钰莹
Chinese singer Yang Yuying, born Yang Gangli on May 11, 1971, became one of the first pop superstars in her home country, and many believe she is the best-selling artist in mainland China. She sang as a child in the Nanchang Children’s Palace Choir, and her debut album came out before she was 20 years old. However, it was 1991 when she performed the songs “Wind and Love, Water and Smile” and “Chashan Love Song” at a major concert event and her fame instantly catapulted. She would cement her status as a pop superstar with “The Heart Rain”, a blockbuster duet with Mao Ning. The duo were dubbed in the Chinese press as “The Cutest Boy and Girl”. Yuying would release 13 albums between 1990 and 1996, leading to her announcing her intention to go into semi-retirement in 1997. After a five-year absence, she began to make live appearances again and release the occasional album.
