Thanks to producer Jim Dickinson, Clawhammer's Hold Your Tongue (And Say Apple) is much more of a sleazy rock & roll album than the group's previous releases, which isn't necessarily a good thing. The band is best when it is playing fast and hard, and Dickinson adds a bit too much of the stanky Memphian groove to make it the ballsy punk record it so wishes to be. There're a couple good tracks there -- "The Valley So High," not "Gnashville" -- but overall, the production prevents it from truly rocking out.
