About Playlist
Since forming in 1998, Prosthetic Records has always been ahead of the curve. In 2000, the L.A. label took a chance on a little-known band from Richmond, VA, (who had just changed their name to Lamb of God), and released New American Gospel, an album that would launch one of the most renowned metal bands of all time. A few years after that they put their finger to the wind and decided that a French death metal band called Gojira might play well with American audiences, and a few years after that they introduced a virtuosic trio named Animals As Leaders to the world of prog-metal. To this day, those three bands, in addition to the Massachusetts metalcore stalwarts All That Remains, might be the most notable Prosthetic signees, but the label's eclectic curatorial skills have arguably done more service to myriad trends and styles in metal's fertile underground.
Prosthetic released brutal chug-fests by the Connecticut wrecking crew The Acacia Strain years before deathcore took off, and when it did finally pop, they were partially responsible because they had also platformed Through The Eyes of The Dead and Beneath the Massacre. In addition to Animals As Leaders, they scooped up the prog titans Scale The Summit early in their career, and did the same for the lauded black metal muts Skeletonwitch. Throughout the late 2000s and the entirety of the 2010s, Prosthetic carved out space for the stonery sludge of Kylesa and Vile Creature; the horns-up heavy metal of Holy Grail and Byzantine; the full spectrum of black metal, from the hellish Dragged Into Sunlight, the almost classical Wormwitch, and the hard rockin' Funeral Chic; frenzied mathcore revivalists like wristmeetrazor and .gif from god; anti-fascist grind bands like WVRM, ACXDC, and Neckbeard Deathcamp; and much, much more.
This playlist is a 30-song sampling that's meant to span Prosthetic's entire history and give a solid idea of their all-encompassing ear for every corner of the metal map.
