Paul Walden
Guru Josh was the brainchild of producer Paul Walden who gave the acid house dance movement one of its biggest hits with Infinity; a thumping tune notable for its haunting sax breaks, dancing keyboards, distant vocals and trancey feel, which heralded the club scene of the 1990s and came to symbolise and define the rave culture for many. Originally emerging as a 12-inch with a limited issue of 1,000 pressings, Infinity became the top acid house anthem at Manchester's famous Hacienda club, later becoming a Top 5 smash all over Europe - and was an even bigger hit when it was updated and reissued in 2008. Walden had little success with his follow-up singles Freaky Dreamer, Holographic Dreams and Whose Law (Is It Anyway?) and abandoned Guru Josh in the early 1990s to work in other multi-media platforms. However, he was persuaded by DJ Darren Bailie to join him and Swedish-born DJ Snakebyte in a modern revival of the sound under the name the Guru Josh Project. German DJ Klaas remixed the track in 2008, released it as Infinity 2008 and it became a massive hit all over again.
