Kiran Kai
London-born songwriter and DJ Kiran Kai produces a murky, atmospheric blend of downtempo, cloud rap, and abstract R&B. The enigmatic artist has worked with musicians such as Skepta, Connie Constance, and Jordan Rakei, and has attracted attention for his hazy solo releases such as 2020's XYZ EP.
Born in Brixton, Kai made his debut with the 2013 single "Drift" (with singer Carla). He self-released his debut EP TRIPS in 2015, then became highly active as a songwriter and producer, working extensively with Jesse James Solomon and additionally contributing to releases by Rosie Lowe, Connie Constance, Rago Foot, and others. He produced Jordan Rakei's laid-back funk tune "Maya" in 2018, and released several other songs during the year, including "Muesli" (with Lowe) and "Iris" (with Daisy Maybe), in addition to producing "The Answer," Maybe's collaboration with Skepta. After moving to Los Angeles, Kai released his EP XYZ (including the Skepta-produced "Passports") in 2020.
