Isabelle
Isabella Adam (May 25, 1975), aka Isabelle A, is a Belgian singer who rose to fame in the late 80s as a teenage pop artist. A Gent native, she began performing from a very early age and was discovered by producer Marc Van Beveren during a talent show. In 1987, the popularity of her singles “On My Own” and “De Troika” helped her land her own show TV Tam Tam, where she made interviews and performed live. Major success followed in 1990 with the single “Hé, Lekker Beest,” which stayed atop of the Flemish charts for nine months and obtained platinum certification. Isabelle A dropped out of high school shortly after the release of her 1991 platinum-selling eponymous LP and continued her winning streak with the albums Zeventien (1992) and Jij doet me leven! (1993). She disappeared from the music scene altogether for the most part of the 2000s but made a triumphant comeback in 2008 with the album De macht der gewoonte, produced by Hooverphonic’s Alex Callier. Following a brief stint as the frontwoman for the bands The Expendables and De Griejtes, Isabelle A returned to the limelight through an appearance on the reality show Liefde voor Muziek, followed by a new album titled Zo zal het zijn (2017), her first studio full-length in nine years. Zo zal het zijn proved to be a smash commercial success and placed third on the Ultratop charts. Preceded by the Koen Wauters duet “Nooit meer alleen,” Sjokola came out in 2019. Subsequently, the single “Ik denk teveel,” recorded with Dutch singer Tim Akkerman, peaked at Number 40 in Belgium.
