Hermès Quartet

The Quatuor Hermès (the Hermès Quartet) is a string quartet formed in 2008 at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique Et De Danse (CNSMD) in Lyon, France. The quartet was founded by French violinists Omer Bouchez and Elise Liu, Taiwanese violist Lou Yung-Hsin Chang, and French cellist Anthony Kondo (later replaced by Yan Levionnois). The original members of Quatuor Hermès began studying with members of the Ravel Quartet before working with the Ysaÿe Quartet, the Artemis Quartet, Eberhard Feltz, and Alfred Brendel. The Quatuor Hermès has won numerous awards including first prize at the Geneva International Competition (2011) and the Young Concert Artists Auditions in New York. The quartet’s international success has allowed them to play Carnegie Hall in New York, the Forbidden City in Beijing, and London, England’s Wigmore Hall. They have also played many festivals throughout Europe and abroad. Since the Quatuor Hermès has a varied repertoire, they’ve been able to perform with many other musicians including Yo-Yo Ma, Gregor Sigl, Kim Kashkashian, and many other solo artists and quartets. They served as the quartet in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Chapel in Brussels (2012 to 2016) and they have been closely associated with the Singer-Polignac Foundation in Paris, France since 2019. The Quatuor Hermès catalog of recordings includes Haydn/Beethoven (2012), The 3 String Quartets Op. 41 (2014), Les Blasphemes: Mélodies Fin-de-siècle (2017), Rosamunde / Der Tod Und Das Mädchen (2021), and Charlotte Sohy: Chamber Music (2022).
