Dolly Parton had more than a little influence over the soundtrack for the comedy Dumplin’, starring Jennifer Aniston and directed by Anne Fletcher. The queen of country music revisited some of her most famous songs as duets, including Here I Am (1971) with Sia, Holdin’ on to You (1977) with Elle King, Dumb Blonde (1967) with Miranda Lambert, Here You Come Again (1977) with Willa Amai, Two Doors Down (1977) with Macy Gray and Jolene (1973) with a string section. Although they don’t surpass the original versions, these covers are nicely arranged and rather tasteful. What stands out the most though is, of course, Dolly’s unmistakeable voice, her heartfelt vocals transforming the stories of little people into a symphony of emotion. © Clotilde Maréchal/Qobuz
