Taken from Babybird's dark, poetic There's Something Going On, "Bad Old Man" is just as sinister when paired with two like-minded B-sides. There's not much that's different going on in "Fuckluv" and "Hospital" than on the title track. The B-sides continue the themes of a confused individual seeing life through murky spectacles upon reaching middle age. No one will confuse any of the three tracks for Babybird's breakthrough pop jingle, "You're Gorgeous." Instead of reaching for cathartic hooks, "Fuckluv" and "Hospital" continue the devilish rock shuffle of the single. "Fuckluv" sees Stephen Jones repeating "All my life I've had this thing that won't go away" repeatedly and that he wants "good love" not "fucluv." "Hospital" has similar rough terrain with Jones "blowing bubbles through your heart" and various other body parts. With a diva wailing in the background, he begs for someone to take care of his every need while he's in some sort of literal or metaphorical hospital. Bad Old Man CD1 contains harsh, introspective material that definitely leans toward Babybird's more anguished motifs. It's spectacular, creative music, but it's a difficult place to visit on a regular basis.
