Tianna Esperanza

Tianna Esperanza creates powerful and creatively boundless music, experimenting with multiple musical approaches to back vivid lyrical content derived from her lived and often intense personal experience. Her poetic songs of trauma, societal criticism, and identity were delivered with styles ranging from laid-back hip-hop to rhythmic punk on her 2023 debut album, Terror. Esperanza was born and raised in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and got into poetry and songwriting in her teenage years. Early self-released songs were delivered in a jazzy, sometimes spoken word style. In the early 2020s, she signed a deal with major label BMG and began releasing songs in advance of her forthcoming debut album. The songs varied in style from track to track, employing everything from soulful crooning to punky outbursts, as on the 2022 single "Princess Slit and the Raincoat Prince," a song inspired by her grandmother Paloma McLardy, who was better known as Palmolive, co-founder of post-punk legends the Slits. Esperanza's debut LP, Terror, explored trauma and pain alongside lighter subject matter. The album featured guest appearances from Valerie June, Mick Flannery, and Rachael Yamagata, and was released in February 2023.
