The Gypsies
A founding member of Gipsy Kings, Chico Bouchiki became a dissident of the famous group when he formed Chico & the Gypsies in 1991. While the album Tengo Tengo, released the following year, didn't break the mould, Vagabundo in 1994 enabled the group to forge its own identity. Deeply committed to peace, Chico Bouchikhi and his musicians toured the world and took part in numerous events promoting closer ties between peoples. In 1998, the album Nomade was released, followed by Freedom, which reached number 12 in 2005. Three years later, Suerte in 2008 was another popular success, celebrated live and recorded for the Double d'Or Live at Olympia. In 2011, Chico et les Gypsies Chantent Aznavour revisits the singer's repertoire in flamenco style. The following year saw the release of the live and collaborative album Chico & the Gypsies & Friends. Flamenco-tinged Latin dance pop takes center stage again on Fiesta (2013) and Chico & the Gypsies & International Friends (2014). In 2016, the collective twice revisited major hits from the 1980s Top 50. First in Color 80's, released in February, then in Color 80's Vol. 2, which follows in August. The group returned in 2018 with the album Mi Corazón, featuring a cover of Kendji Girac's "Elle m'a aimé".
