The Bony King of Nowhere
The Bony King of Nowhere is the musical project of critically acclaimed alternative singer/songwriter Bram Vanparys from Belgium. A multi-instrumentalist who performs most of his own music, Vanparys first made a name for himself with a demo recording that was widely circulated on account of being highlighted by The Wire magazine. A recording opportunity with the label Helicopter resulted, and Vanparys collaborated with producer Koen Gisen on his full-length album debut, Alas My Love (2009), released in association with EMI. In addition to a cascade of critical acclaim, Alas My Love was a Top Ten hit on the Belgian albums chart. Comparisons were drawn to similarly styled contemporary English-language alternative singer/songwriters such as Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, and Devendra Banhart. In support of his album debut, Vanparys toured with a band including Cleo Janse (piano), Gerben Hemelsoen (guitar), Stijn Tondeleir (bass), and Jan Dhaene (drums).
