Space Raiders

The Space Raiders debuted with a few EPs on the U.K.-based Skint label with their kooky style of big beat before making the jump to full-length albums and an unsuccessful attempt to cross over to the States. A band rather than a sole producer -- Mark Hornby, Gary Bradford, and Martin Jenkins -- the Space Raiders arrived a bit too late to cash in on the late '90s big beat boom led by Fatboy Slim and the Chemical Brothers. Thus, stateside listeners paid little attention, even when the group opened for the Lo-Fidelity Allstars. The band had modest success in the U.K., mostly with the 1999 single "(I Need the) Disko Doktor."
