Sophy

SOPHY is the stage name of Sophy Ka Yee Wong, a Cantopop singer/songwriter whose music reaches beyond the genre's usual borders. Born in Hong Kong on February 16, 1992, she competed in the first season of Hong Kong's The Voice in 2009, ultimately finishing in seventh place. Her debut EP, Sophrology, was digitally released in 2016, introducing a modern pop sound influenced by R&B, hip-hop, and other urban sounds. Shortly thereafter, she formed her own label, Bunny Eats Ltd., with Cantopop producer Tsang-Hei Chiu. Sophrology was reissued as a physical release in February 2017, charting at Number 8 on Hong Kong's IFPI chart and earning SOPHY a number of "Best New Artist" awards from organizations like the Jade Solid Gold Best Ten Music Awards Presentation, the Metro Radio Music Awards, the Ultimate Song Chart Awards Presentation, and the Yahoo! Asia Buzz Awards. Another EP, Quarter, arrived before the year was up, with SOPHY claiming production credit for the first time. The record earned international accolades, including a nomination for "Overseas Music Creation" from the Golden Indie Music Awards in Taiwan. SOPHY's first Mandarin EP, Harsh, was released in late 2019, featuring an experimental, electronic sound and moody production from Huang Shao Yong. The record earned her two additional Golden Indie Music Awards nominations, including "Best Singer/Songwriter." SOPHY continued releasing singles in 2021, including "一切心神恍惚之間" and "無覓."
