Sarke

A Norwegian extreme metal group featuring members of Khold, Tulus, and Darkthrone, Sarke emerged in the late 2000s with a sound that combines black, speed, and doom metal with elements of groove-laden '70s rock. Debuting in 2009 with the blistering Vorunah, the band has issued a string of punishing and dynamic studio efforts, including Aruagint (2013), Viige Urh (2017), and Allsighr (2021). Formed in Oslo in 2008 as a solo project for bassist/guitarist Thomas "Sarke" Bergli (Khold, Tulus), Sarke grew into a trio with additions of keyboardist Anders Hunstad and Darkthrone vocalist Ted "Nocturno Culto" Skjellum. Citing a wide array of influences that includes Mayhem, Slayer, Darkthrone, Celtic Frost, Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Death, Motörhead, and Kreator, Sarke issued their debut album, Vorunah, in 2009. Drummer Terje Kråbøl and guitarist Steinar Gundersen (Satyricon, Spiral Architect) joined the fold ahead of the release of 2011's Oldarhian, which like its predecessor, was released by Norwegian metal label Indie Recordings. That lineup proved to be solid and served as the propulsion for all of the band's subsequent efforts, which includes Aruagint (2013), Bogefod (2016), Viige Urh (2017), and Gastwerso (2019). Sarke released their seventh long-player, Allsighr, independently in 2021.
