Ruben de Fuéntes
The renowned violin player, arranger, and musical director for Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan and Jose Alfredo Jiménez during the golden era of mariachi bands, Rubén Fuentes wrote dozens of Mexican standards including "La Negra," "La Culebra," "Las Alazanas," "Como Si Nada," "La Bikina," and "Que Bonita Es Mi Tierra" (many were composed with Mariachi Vargas' nominal leader, Silvestre Vargas). Fuentes also produced several of Linda Ronstadt's traditional Latin albums. His songs have been performed by Vikki Carr, Pedro Infante, Marco Antonio Muniz, and Javier Solis. Rubén Fuentes died on February 5, 2022 at the age of 95.
