Quix
New Zealand's QUIX (aka Jono Schnell), is an in-demand DJ and electronic musician known for his sparkling trap and EDM productions. He initially emerged online in 2015 and eventually moved to Los Angeles, where he released his debut EP, Heaps Cool, in 2017 on Dim Mak.
Raised in Auckland, New Zealand, Jonathan "Jono" Schnell grew up in a Christian household where he was partly homeschooled. As a pre-teen, he started getting into music and played in his first bands around age nine. By age 14, he had discovered electronic dance music and soon began experimenting with creating his own tracks. At 18, he heard RL Grime's "Flood" and was immediately hooked on making his own trap and bass and drum recordings. He took a day job working as a landscaper and spent his off-hours recording, as well as DJing around Auckland. It was during this period that he adopted the stage name QUIX, inspired by his German last name, which means fast. He started posting tracks online and was eventually discovered by New York-based producer Party Thieves, who helped QUIX sign with his management team. He eventually relocated to Los Angeles, and in 2017 issued his debut EP, Heaps Cool, on Steve Aoki's Dim Mak label. During this period, he also worked on tracks with Boombox Cartel, Gucci Mane, KRANE, and remixed songs by Skrillex, Rick Ross, Future, and more. A second EP, Illusions, arrived the following year and featured collaborations with Bok Nero, David Shane, and Aviella. In 2019, he issued the single "Stronger," featuring Elanese.
