Mørk
Recording and performing under the name MØRK, Norwegian pianist/composer Benjamin Mørk combined minimalist jazz with electronic, rock, and classical styles in a melodic hybrid. Raised on the island of Senja in Northern Norway, he relocated to Tromsø where in 2012 he formed the initial lineup of MØRK. Citing influences that ranged from jazz artists like fellow countryman Nils Petter Molvær and Swedish pianist Esbjörn Svensson to German electronic pioneers Kraftwerk and Americana music, he released his debut album, Karasho, in 2013. While Karasho featured a standard piano trio set-up, MØRK's 2015 follow-up, Meantime Lifetime, was largely more experimental, with heavy electronic textures.
