Mark Eliyahu
Born on July 13, 1982 in Dagestan ASSR, Russian SFSR, USSR, Mark Eliyahu is an Israeli folk musician who specializes in playin the kamancha (an Iranian bowed string instrument) and the baghlama (a Turkish stringed instrument). Born in Dagestan, his family relocated to Israel in 1989. At the age of 16, inspired by a performance by kamancheh player Habil Aliyev, he move Baku, Azerbaijan to study the kamancheh under Adalat Vazirov. He began his professional career in the late 1990s, appearing in The Spirit of the East (1999), concert recording directed by his father Peretz Eliyahu. That same year, he appeared as a soloist with the Israel Chamber Orchestra at an Israeli festival. He released Voices of Judea, his first solo album, in 2004. His catalog also includes his 2013 album, Sands.
