Lutalo

Lutalo's self-realized, lo-fi indie rock has charmed audiences on the EPs Once Now, Then Again (2022) and Again (2023) and in concert as an opener for acts like Big Thief and Claud (their duet partner on 2024 single “Running”). Minneapolis native Lutalo Jones was exposed to a variety of styles by their father, and was soon inspired to self-produce after being exposed to the music of neo-psychedelic acts like Tame Impala and Unknown Mortal Orchestra. A cousin by marriage of Big Thief frontwoman Adrianne Lenker, Lutalo opened for the band in 2021, honing their songs -- intimate, energetic, and vocally critical of racism, economic inequality, and quality of life under capitalism -- for an attentive audience. They then relocated to Vermont from New York City, building their own home and recording the EPs Once Now, Then Again and Again in tandem. Once Now, Then Again was released in 2022, with vocal praise from Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold and tracks like “For Now,” “Call It In,” and “Little Chance” gaining attention from listeners and critics. Non-album single “Familiar Face” was released in mid-2023, with second EP Again appearing that fall; it offered a louder, more upbeat sonic palette but kept the indie vibes strong on tracks like “Push Back Baby” and “PLPH,” the latter a critique of the lack of affordable housing in America. “Running,” a single with tourmate Claud, followed in early 2024.
