LOUTA
Born Jaime James on June 22nd, 1994 in Buenos Aires, singer-songwriter and record producer LOUTA initially made a name for himself as a DJ before bursting onto the Argentine scene in the late 2010s with a distinctive breed of Spanish-language off-pop and alternative hip-hop. Debuting in 2016 with a self-titled, self-released EP, he soon drummed up a loyal following, signing to Sony in 2018 ahead of the release of his debut studio album, INSERT. Preceded by the riotous, reggaeton-infused lead single “TODOS CON EL CELU”, the LP was praised by critics for its unorthodox fusion of alt-pop, trap, boom-bap and dubstep among other genres, picking up the coveted title of Best Alternative Pop Album at the Oscar Awards the following year. Swiftly returning with a flurry of light-hearted non-album singles including “TAU TAU”, “COCO SHANEL” and “NO TE COMAS LA PELI” to tide fans over, James simultaneously concentrated his efforts into a sophomore album, reemerging in 2020 with the ten-track effort 2030. Spawning the hit single “Amame”, the project thematically placed considerable emphasis on the challenges of relationships in a digital age. It was nominated for a 2020 Latin GRAMMY for Best Alternative Music Album, with close collaborator and former Calle 13 member Visitante also receiving a Producer of the Year nomination at the ceremony for his extensive instrumental contributions to the LP. Rounding off a prolific year, James returned in October 2020 with a new single, the low-slung and club-ready “USH”.
