lemon james

Rock music greats like Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix are some of the early influences that caused a young Detroit native named Lemon James to learn to play the guitar. She was a natural, but soon found she didn't like many of the guitars available to her at the time. In 1989, she solved that problem by building her own guitar and doing it exactly as she wanted. The finished product was good enough that she patented the design. In the early '90s, James put together a band called Experienced. She started out appearing where ever there was an open microphone night around the Detroit area. Like the name of the group, she got experienced as she went. After a while, she decided to try it solo, and around the same time, she began writing her own songs. In 1995, James recorded her debut album, I Am a Voodoo Child. It carries several songs she wrote herself and a couple of numbers originally recorded by Jimi Hendrix. Her sophomore release, Livin in the Sun, didn't show up until 2000. "Whispering Secrets," "Get It Straight," "Loneliness Calls," and "Come on Over Here" are some of the superb tracks that ended up on this second offering that was released under the Foxey Records label. In the years Lemon James has been performing, she has won a number of music competitions, and toured through parts of the United Sates and across Germany.
