Jennifer & Hazel Wrigley

Scottish acoustic folk duo and identical twins Jennifer and Hazel Wrigley, who were actually born in Whitby, Yorkshire, began performing immediately after leaving school in the Orkneys, near Scotland, with Hazel on guitar and keyboards and Jennifer playing the fiddle. Earlier they had enrolled in the Strathspey and Reel Society’s Junior section at the age of 13. The experience of talking and playing with their peers and elders encouraged them to adopt music as their mutual career, after Jennifer had not only won the Society’s Junior Fiddle Competition at the age of 15, but also took the Senior title as well. In 1991 the duo recorded their debut album for the Orkney Island’s only studio, Owen Tierney’s Attic Records, preceding a series of ventures into mainland Scotland and England. Their second set The Watch Stone was also recorded in Orkney, but a permanent move to Edinburgh gave the sisters a more practical base from which to venture on a world tour. Subsequently they recorded two albums with the informal six-piece band Seelyhoo, and moved to Greentrax Records for their late 90s international breakthrough albums, Huldreland and Mither O’ The Sea.
