Hanny

b. Leosbel Jimenez, 1973, Havana, Cuba. A former member of the Cuban Olympic fencing team turned singer, guitarist and songwriter, Hanny was discovered busking in the streets of Havana in 1996, by the London-based Mr Bongo Records. He recorded The Voice Of Cuba in London and Havana with a mixture of British and Cuban-based musicians, including pianist/cellist Daniel ‘Chino’ Rodriquez (of Sinfonica Cubana), plus percussionists Anga (Irakere) and Williams Cumberbache (Tumbaito). Released in 1997, it featured traditional Cuban song styles such as son, mambo and bolero, along with a pair of Latin ballads, all interpreted with sophisticated, modern salsa arrangements.
