Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad

Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad bring the urgency and spontaneity of a jam band to world beats and reggae rhythms. The group consistently aimed to push the boundaries of the reggae genre with their sizzling live shows and stylistically adventuresome studio albums like 2023's Love in Time. Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad formed in Rochester, New York, in 2001. Originally, the band consisted of brothers Chris O'Brian on drums and Matt O'Brian on guitar with childhood friend James Searl on vocals and bass. The group began playing more seriously in 2006 when they expanded the lineup to include guitarist Dylan Savage, keyboardist Rachel Orke, and percussionist Aaron Lipp. This iteration of the band released the debut album Slow Down in 2006, and they began receiving national attention. A series of live albums, Live Up! and Live Up! Volume II, followed in 2009 and 2010, respectively, and in 2010 GPGDS experienced another lineup change when Matt O'Brian and Orke both left the band. Dan Keller came on as lead guitarist for the group's Americana-flavored album Country as well as the more psychedelic and jammy In These Times, both released in 2012. Lipp was replaced by keyboardist Tony Gallicchio for the band's next string of studio albums: 2013's Steady, 2014's Bright Days, and 2015's Make It Better. Keller was replaced by guitarist Eli Flynn in 2019, and the band continued to gain more followers with their improvisatory live shows, and albums that made a mark on the Billboard Reggae charts. The 2023 album Love in Time was the group's most collaborative effort to date, finding them working with a host of guest musicians like Double Tiger, Anthony B, Skribe Da God, and others.
